Post from the Bus Part Two
How does a bus have internet? I just don't get it. I forgot about Utah Mondays this week so now it's become Utah Thursday. This shot is from Snowbird and the skier is Rob Greener. Enjoy.

Film is Dead to Me...For Now.

So I got a hair up my ass this weekend and pulled all my old film cameras out of storage. I hadn't held my EOS 3 in at least 2 years - man does that camera feel good in your hands. I also pulled the old Mamiya out of it's bag and shot a quick 5 black and white Polaroids that were left in the back. Medium format is so cool, so much nicer than digital, so big looking through the view finder. But after looking at all the old gear I decided that it was time for it all to go. With a quick phone call to friend the Mamiya was gone - just like that. For the 35mm stuff I will be putting the EOS 3 and an old Elan 7 up on EBAY in the next few days. I will also be getting rid of my 2X tele-converter, I never use the thing and it slows up auto-focus to a snails pace.
Why get rid of it all? Down the road here in the next few months I'd like to find an old 4x5 field camera and shoot even bigger film. I've been really diggin' the look of the big film recently - something about it you just can't duplicate with digital. Until I find one I'll be rolling all digital.

Golfing Season.
With still a whole lot not going on I've been getting organized for a busy summer, settling up my winter shoots, and getting ready to update my website with new and fresh images. I'll let everyone know when that is updated. With forecasts calling for Vermont's first blast of summer this weekend (highs in the 80's) I'm also getting psyched for fishing and golf season. Below is a quick shot from my shoot up at Jay Peak last summer.

Monday Utah.
Since we are in the middle of mud season and there is not a whole lot of photography going on at this very moment I figured I'd add a "Monday Utah" segment to the blog. Each Monday (if I can remember) I'm going to post one new image from my recent participation in the Ski Salt Lake Shootout. This weeks installment is an image I shot to include in the "City Lifestyle" category. After a long and good day in the Brighton backcountry and a quick stop at Molly's to refuel, Jack Nelson, Carlo Travarelli and myself set up a quick shot at the bus station on Wasatch Blvd. at the mouth of the BCC.
For this shot I had one canon 550ex behind the bus shelter pointing up at the sign and one 550ex with a shoot through white umbrella in front and up of Jack and Carlo. Both flashes were triggered with pocketwizards and I believe both were at full power. Shot with my Canon 1D Mark 2N, 1/200 @ f14, canon 70-200 @ 75mm.

Family Fun.
A couple of weeks ago I shot a full day of family fun up at Killington. Although it's not as exciting as shooting athletes ripping turns through 24" of cold Utah smoke, it's still fun. The kids are always funny and most of the time I could get them to do anything I needed with the promise of maple covered waffles.

Utah Revisited.
I haven't been shooting much the last few days, been very typical Vermont spring weather - cloudy, not cold enough and rainy. I was at Okemo last Tuesday to try to get a few more shots to build my magazine stock but the forecast for bluebird skies never materialized. All the while Utah is having one of the most epic spring storm cycles I've ever read about. I'm guessing but I would say something like 150-200 inches in about 14 days?? Every time I checked the Alta snow report it would read something crazy like 19" in the last 12 hours. I became obsessed. Every morning I would check and every morning for two weeks it would read 10" last 12 hours - 15" last 12 hours - 21" last 12 hours. Must have been nice. I'm over it though, winter that is. I got the final four, opening day baseball, and The Masters weekend on the TV and fishing season begins next week.
I leave you with a shot of Jack Nelson I took from my recent participation in the Ski Salt Lake Shootout. I'll try to get more shots from the SSLS posted in the coming weeks. This image didn't make my final submission for the shootout because of Jack's questionable form, but I really dig the cool contrail and light. Shot with my Mark 2N, 70-200 @ 155mm, 1/4000 @ f2.8.
