Snow.

After a very lackluster start to the 2009-2010 ski/ride season here in New England it looks like we might be getting into a little cycle of snow and cold.

View while driving to the big K today to pick up my seasons pass and a few holiday runs.

Day One and Frostbite - perfect.

First real shooting day on snow this season.  Unfortunately the temperature at the peak was -3 and the wind was blowing.  Snowboarded down to the bottom of the park, hiked up to a few features, shot a few images before the freshly charged battery died, then snowboarded to the car.  One run, a few shots and mild frostbite - wouldn't have it any other way.

Cool Shot From The Past.

Got an email from a fellow photog Court Leve last week.  I meet Court at last years Ski Salt Lake Shootout.  He took home the cash in the "big mountain" category with his winning shot from a chute out in Honeycomb Canyon, Solitude.  Years ago I shot the same chute with friend and  fellow snowboarder Eric Moore.  If I remember correctly my photo ran in Backcountry Magazine in the snowboard gear review...maybe 2005?

Pasture Prime Feature.

Last winter I posted something I and a few skiers do in these parts of Vermont when the local resorts are all tracked out and the secret stashes are beaten down.  We head to the pastures.  After throwing the idea by Grant Gunderson, photo editor of The Ski Journal and talking to local writer Kirk K. we all came together and everyone was onboard to get the story done.  Personally I think this is one of the coolest stories I've had published.  The Ski Journal even ran the story black and white which was my original concept.  Take a look and let me know what you think.

I have a shot published this month in SKI Magazine.  A story on the BeetleKill in Colorado.  Horn and I already covered it HERE.  The image was taken last February at Breckenridge Resort, Colorado.

Cover.

Just received my new issue of Endless Vacation magazine.  One of my images from Cannon Mountain, New Hampshire appears on the cover.  That makes my third cover in as many months, one fly fishing, one flour and now one skiing.  Small world story, inside the magazine is an article titled "Best Golf in the Caribbean" written by Larry Olmsted.  The small world part is that Larry calls Woodstock, Vermont home and I've actually photographed Larry for an article in a local Burlington newspaper.

Kirk K.

Kirk K. is a writer I work with quite often.  He and I collaborate on a bunch of local projects for 7 Days and Upper Valley Life but coming out real soon is a feature he and I produced for The Ski Journal.  I have to say this is the most excited I've been to see a feature published in a long time.  All about skiing the local pastures in and around Woodstock, Vermont.  I checked my PO Box today but still no new issue.  Soon I hope and when I do get my copy I'll make sure to post a few tears.  Anyway, Kirk gave a call last week wondering if I had a little time to shoot some lifestyle/headshots for him and his new website.  Not a problem.  You can check out Kirks new site HERE.

White Water.

Had the opportunity to shoot some white water kayaking a few weekends ago.  First time trying to shoot the sport and it was a bit tricky.  Something about the thought that if you slip, you and your gear are getting a bath and you're taking a ride in some fast moving cold ass water.  Next go around should be twice as smooth.

Quick Hit from Jay Peak.

There is a new ski/mountain lifestyle magazine being published titled Mountain Sports and Living. Inside is a cool article on the two Vermonters who started the online store backcountry.com. The magazine is also sporting a great cover image by Henry Georgi. Pick up a copy if you see one.

And while you are flipping through the pages check out the Jay Peak write-up in the Resort Guide section.(p.81) You can see an oldie but goodie I shot of Brian Keet.
